WrestleMania weekend has arrived, and whilst the build for it hasn’t been exciting, there are a few matches splattered throughout both nights that you can get excited for.
Oba Femi vs Brock Lesnar
Known as the Big E special, kicking off WrestleMania Sunday, The Beast Incarnate vs The Ruler, Brock Lesnar vs Oba Femi. A match befitting the spectacle of WrestleMania. Lesnar is known for a historic track record on the grandest stage of them all, where he broke the Undertaker’s Streak in 2014 and won his second WWE Championship at WrestleMania 19.
Then there is the ruler, Femi, a man who is making his PLE debut and what bigger than the bright lights of WrestleMania, a clash of two powerhouses, two superstars who are larger than life and will look to cause absolute chaos and have the fans chanting for that first stare down on Sunday night.
No doubt, have fans been excited about this for weeks, from that first powerbomb drop by Femi to Lesnar on RAW to this past Monday, and Femi blowing everyone away with his words on the mic this past Monday Night. This is going to be special and will have fans talking about it after Sunday night.
Unsanctioned Jacob Fatu vs Drew McIntyre
This match could be violent, given recent history and Drew McIntyre’s last two stipulation matches on a PLE, not to mention Fatu’s track record in these types of matches. There’s reason to believe that McIntyre and Fatu will bring violence to WrestleMania Saturday.
Perhaps the best rivalry on SmackDown currently is between McIntyre and Fatu, engaging in so many brawls, with both of them falling off a balcony four weeks ago after beating each other up for most of the show. This rivalry has more heat and fire than the main event on Saturday.
When the intensity is high, and you can tell that both performers have sunk their teeth into this feud, to make the most out of it, given by Fatu’s promo on Smackdown last night, the physical exchanges and McIntyre’s beatdown on Fatu a week ago, the story has been told well and so there’s anticipation that it could go to (in the words of Paul Heyman) to the EXTREME. No rules, no protection, just uncontrollable violence, it’s unsanctioned.
Intercontinental Championship Ladder MatcH
It isn’t a WrestleMania without a ladder match, making the card and six superstars from Raw, including a returning WWE Hall Of Famer from injury, Rey Mysterio, announcing his place this past Monday, making himself a last-minute addition. Still, regardless of the amount of talent in there, some of which are incredible, high-flyers and a great watch in the ring, it’s going to make for some chaos and a good amount of fun, too.
Everyone knows what these talents in the ring are capable of, expect some new WrestleMania moments to be made, and I’m sure there will be quite a lot of Holy s*** chants echoing inside Allegiant Stadium.
Liv Morgan vs Stephanie Vaquer, women’s world championship
A personal rivalry that has had emotion, beatdowns, brawls, and had family brought into it, a match that not many people are talking about, and so it could be a sleeper. Stephanie Vaquer and Liv Morgan have made it personal, meaning all the emotion and hatred told through the story will be brought to the fore in this title match.
The disdain for each other has been perfectly sold, and each brawl has had an extra intensity, as if they want to kill one another for real. Sometimes we have matches that totally go against our expectations; Morgan vs Vaquer could very well be that match.
Seth Rollins vs Gunther
A fight fan’s fight, a wrestling fan’s wrestling match. Seth Rollins vs Gunther could be the greatest match to come on WrestleMania weekend, perhaps even the match of the year. The expectations are high, and fans’ excitement is high because of how talented both guys are.
Two of the best technical wrestlers on the WWE roster currently are Rollins, who rarely has a bad match, and Gunther. Anyone who goes in the ring with the “Ring General” makes them look different levels and gives them a star-making performance.
Rollins has a pretty good track record of stealing the show at WrestleMania; he’s rarely had a bad match. So much so that he’s being billed as the modern-day Mr WrestleMania. The story is simple, both guys want to prove who is the better wrestler, and it’s a safe bet that we are in for a classic.
ROMAN REIGNS VS CM PUNK WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP
This match is unpredictable, but there’s no doubt it’s one of the standout events of the weekend, especially considering the verbal exchanges they’ve had on RAW and the social media promos this week. It’s The OTC versus The Best in the World: Roman Reigns against CM Punk. This is the match we’ve all been eager to see since Punk made his return in 2023.
Now they were part of the triple threat last year along with Rollins, but a straight-up one-on-one, as they know the calibre and level these two can go at, Punk has been on a generational run with the World Championship, having great matches with the likes of Finn Balor and Bron Breakker.
Reigns is no stranger to having incredible big matches, either, given what we saw during his 1,316-day run as the WWE Undisputed Champion, plus his last singles match with Bronson Reed back in October was pretty crazy in a good way.
Whatever the result of this match on Sunday Night, there is no doubt that people will be talking about this match after WrestleMania is over.
So now it’s time to sit back and let the show go on, starting with night one tonight, Ladies and Gentlemen, welcome to WrestleMania weekend.
