Football is in mourning for one of the Premier League’s top forwards, as Diogo Jota along with his brother Andre Silva, both lost their lives in a tragic car accident in Zamora, Spain.
According to the Guardia Civil, the two brothers passed away at 00:30 am on Thursday.
Their Lamborghini suffered a tyre blowout while overtaking another vehicle, which then caused a massive fire.
The brothers were on holiday in Zamora, a region of northwest Spain. Jota had only just been married to his partner Rute Cordoso who had three children.
Jota was intending to return to Liverpool by boat, meaning he was travelling by car from Porto to take a ferry from Santander.
The Portuguese winger made 190 appearances for Liverpool and Wolverhampton Wanderers, netting a total of 63 goals and creating 20 assists.
The last of those goals came in the Merseyside derby on 2nd April.
He also received 49 caps for the Portuguese National team, scoring 14 goals.
A Civil Guard spokesman from Zamora provided a detailed explanation of the situation and emphasised that more time is needed to gain a comprehensive understanding of the incident that occurred.
“The full police report once it is completed will be submitted to a duty court in Zamora which has launched an ongoing judicial investigation into this crash. That report is going to take time to complete, probably about four or five days but possibly longer.”At this moment in time it is impossible to say at exactly what speed the car was going but that is something the Civil Guard investigators will be able to detail at least approximately in their final report from things like the skid marks. What I can confirm is that no other vehicle was involved and no one else was hurt.”

This must be an extremely difficult time for the Silva family. Especially for Joaquim and Isabel Silva, who now mourn the death of both of their sons.
It is also a hard time for Rute and her young kids, Dinis, Duarte, and her little girl, whose name is unknown, to know that her husband and their father is no longer alive.
Reds boss Arne Slot gave his condolences to his former player.
My first thoughts are not those of a football manager. They are of a father, a son, a brother and an uncle and they belong to the family of Diogo and Andre Silva who have experienced such an unimaginable loss. I could say so much about what he brought to our team but the truth is everyone who watched Diogo play could see it. Hard work, desire, commitment, great quality, goals. The essence of what a Liverpool player should be.

Ex-Reds boss Jurgen Klopp also paid a tribute to Jota, who played under him for four years.
‘This is a moment where I struggle! There must be a bigger purpose! But I can’t see it,”I’m heartbroken to hear about the passing of Diogo and his brother Andre. ‘Diogo was a not only a fantastic player, but also a great friend, a loving and caring husband and father! We will miss you so much!
